Associate Reviewers

 Background

  • Worldwidereview was founded in 2000 to provide a forum for people to read and write reviews of contemporary art and culture.
  • Its aim is to allow greater access for people from around the world to write reviews. And for exhibitions and events which are not reviewed by the mainstream media to get critical responses.
  • At present it has around 1500 individual users a week
  • Of those people who read it, only a very small number write for it
  • Worldwidereview is independently funded, and has no revenue incomes. It is a non-profit organisation with contributors working without payment.
  • It is both democratic and hierarchical. Democratic because anyone can write a review which appears immediately online. Hierarchical because the editors choose the ten best reviews to be put on the homepage of the site.
  • Advertisements for worldwidereview have appeared in Frieze and Art monthly. The site has been favourably reviewed in The Independent newspaper and on netartreview.net
  • It rates highly in google searches for reviews of many very diverse subjects.
  • The aim of worldwidereview is to become the premier forum for critical debate about contemporary art and culture, and for it to have a global spread of reviewers and subjects.

Role

  • In order to expand participation and access to the site we have decided to establish a number of associate reviewers. Although anyone can write a review online, associate reviewers will undertake to do so on a regular basis i.e. one or more reviews per week where possible.
  • Associate reviewers will submit their reviews online using their own name or a consistent pseudonym.
  • Associate reviewers will be expected to raise the profile of worldwidereview where possible and bring it to the attention of relevant people and organisations.
  • Associate reviewers will have their own page on the site with any biographical information they may wish to publish.
  • Associate reviewers will receive no payments or expenses.
  • The role of associate reviewers is expected to develop in the future. With editorial or other responsibilities a possibility.
