good or bad?The painters, George Shaw and Karla Black, are joined on the 2011 prize shortlist by sculptor Martin Boyce and video artist Hilary Lloyd.

George Shaw is the only REAL artisty amongst the TRACEY-EMIN type BASTARDS> HE SHAOULD put teh rest oft them to SHAME. MY grand-DAUGHTER could make better "art" by smearing her poo on the wall them most of them.

I think the reason they call it a 'short' list is because all the contestants come up short on quality.

I don't know anything about the others so I'll save my bitter contempt for the dull, ginger garage-door painter. Is little Georgie Shaw still pedaling that old guff about using Humbrol enamel paint for his paintings because he used to use it to paint Airfix models when he was a boy? Such nonsense. What does it even mean? It means knobs buy his paintings, that's what.

Yeah I'm baffled how George made the list. Have to agree with Dick Dormant of the D Telegraph - Boyce looks the likely winner. Is it a bloke's turn this year? Snore.

George was in the year above me at the RCA. I've always liked his paintings, they depict those crappy bits of places that aren't normally painted, and take you back to looking at them, and make you think of his paintings when you do.

Those things like paints in humbrol cos liked airfix, are the sort of PR guff that clings to any well knownish artist, and is recycled endlessly by newspapers, it's not the artist's choice. Same as Ofili with his elefant dung.
