The Great Beauty

The Great Beauty

The Cinzano commercial that would be La Dolce Vita.

So bad I wouldn’t even rate it.

It looks like an ad, sounds like an ad but goes on and on and on…

I walked out after an hour of smug world-weariness from an ageing Roman Illuminati, drowned in dance beats and kitsch lighting, your stock-tasteful frontal framing and frenetic editing – how this got on anyone’s best-of list for 2013 or awards I'll never understand.

hmm, glad to have my suspicions confirmed. I have noticed with recent French (realise this one is Italian) movies that they have all the depth of hollywoodromcom but masquerade as something more profound

Yes the allure of a foreign tongue often disguises some fairly humdrum content.

la grande bellezza on netflix

Postby jasperjoffe » Mon Aug 25, 2014 5:27 pm

SO few good films on Netflix. I finally caught this. Actually, sorpresa sorpresa, I really enjoyed it. Lively with music and style, not driven by story, our world weary lead with a rumpled charisma. Rome gloriously awful. Its something about decay, or decadence, or getting old or being old. Whatever, it's dazzling. Yes, a martini commercial, but the flummery of that is surely the point.
