Before Midnight

I have grown middle aged with these talky romantic relationship films. Over time, I realised what a brilliant actress the slightly annoying Delpy is, her portrayal of the mercurial mood changes within an argument is genius in this one, the sprirals of badger and pick between couples wonderfully conceived by her, hawke, and linklater. And the cocksure Ethan still talks his pretentious rubbish with the same assurance and actual charm. One of the very few big films that actually describes what relationships can be like and lets people talk without rushing towards learning or whimsy. And like all of sunrise, sunset, and midnight, despite the problems one leaves the cinema filled with the joy of life.

Apparently also has a cameo by legendary British cinematopher Walter Lassally (he lit Zorba The Greek amongst countless other things. Equally fascinatingly, taught me a few things about lighting at film school...)

A Top Geezer! :D
