New Delhi: Listen to Plok, a five-member band which will play for the first time atTurquoise Cottage, 47, Basant Lok, Priya Cinema Complex, Vasant Vihar on Sunday, February 19, 2012 from 8 p.m. onwards. Entry is free.
The band members are Neeraj Aggarwala (Vocals), Anirudh Subramaniam (Guitars), Tushar Rawal (Guitars), Jayant Manchanda (Bass) and Nirvan Pareva (Drums). The band claims to seek its influences from Alterbridge, A Perfect Circle, Incubus, Dream Theater, Blackfield, Live, Metallica, Mika, Godsmack, Opeth, Smashing Pumpkins, Porcupine Tree, U2, Oasis, SOD, Mr. Big, Queen, The Beatles and DMB.
Says Neeraj Aggarwala: “While looking for a name, the foremost criteria we had was that it had to be representative of our music. Last year, pursuing an ever-existing fantasy of making music together, three of us (me, Anirudh and Rahul) picked up a guitar and started plucking an undeniably ‘pop’ riff. Contrary to our music preferences, we started bouncing to it and before you know it, we had an interesting melody going. That night saw the birth of ‘In a sense’ and ‘Plok’ too.”
From there the trio moved on to recruiting the brightest musical talent in the city: Tushar, Jayant and Nirvan to create the freshest sound, as described by others, that makes Plok what it is today.
The basic premise of the band is that stereotyping is forbidden. Just because something isn’t appreciated, or is appreciated a little too much doesn’t mean that we’re going to be closed to it. Says Neeraj: “We like it, we do it. Simple. Which also means that we’re open to trying newer things. Moving along the same thought, we also do not like to confine ourselves to a particular genre. Fine, our sound might appeal to people who listen to Alt/Prog Rock, and we’re happy that it does, but we find the concept of ‘genre’lizing a tad too restrictive. So we wanted to break this ‘bubble’ and THAT’s the sound of Plok.”
