Preview Friday 30 May 6-9pm
31 May – 22 June 2014
Gallery Open Fri - Sun 12-6pm

In view of the prevailing onslaught of neo-liberalist/capitalist tendencies in our current political climate and the daily media denigration of the working class, this timely exhibition, curated by Nathan Eastwood, focuses on renewing latent art historical concepts and exploring the conceptual and aesthetic paradigms inherent in Social Realism re-positioning it within a contemporary context.

Towards A New Socio-Painting questions how the material language of painting can respond to the idea of a socially committed art practice in a new way. Focusing on the present day each of the participating artists have contributed a series of paintings that in their various ways operate within an allegorical, political or social framework.

Panel Discussion: Towards A New Socio-Painting
Saturday 14 June 2014 - 2-3.30pm
Hosted by the Nathan Eastwood and Alex Michon
Speakers: David Tucker / George Vasey / Paul O'Kane.
This event will open out the political, social and artistic discourses surrounding this new socio-real aesthetic. All welcome.
