James Salter BURNING THE DAYS

the Salter bandwagon has got going and ive hitched a ride. I prefer the novels to this memoir, but maybe the life makes clear what the art lacks. somehow all the love of the witty riposte, the pseudo elegance of the disinterested rich, the honour and valour of military courage... insouciance over valued, corrupted the writer who seems rather too impressed by the beautiful people and their fancy parties, a good hotel, a great dinner, beautiful "girls", fade and leave you with slightly wasted talent and skewed perceptions.
