Genuinely exciting and epic read. Richly written and peopled, the loss of dwarves, hobbit, elves, etc ( a sort of nostalgia) is the most pervading theme of this and the lord of rings. Magic (or childhood) is in the past. Did tolkien invent all the shit which spawned dungeons and dragons, harry potter etc. Some of it :
