Lorrie Moore collected stories

much recommnened by franzen et all. not bad but every character has the same quirky punning humour which is annoying and most of the stories are depressing, there are LOL moments and some good lyrical writing, but not quite top drawer.

I think the thing that really put me off her, was watching some You Tubes of her readings.

Yuk!

As for Franzen, coincidentally, happened to hear a longish radio interview with him recently, and although he started out rather stiff and academic, he did warm to the task, talking more about his life than his work. Apparently he is an avid bird-watcher these days! (who knew?) and has mellowed a lot in his latest relationship with.... a Californian!
