This is a modest collection of ten short stories by an L.A.-based writer (I think). She has quite a good sense of humour, she doesn't work too hard on making herself seem clever and loveable like Lorrie Moore. And if, like me, you failed to secure a copy of Eric Puchner's Music Through The Floor, as a Christmas present for your neice, this is a good substitution.
