Now here's something to please people in their comfort soles. Beachy paintings by the sea. Oddly enough the context helps. They look good in the contemptuous contemplative contemporary surroundings of the kunsthalle-on-sea. If you saw them in Cork Street you might well find them kitsch and decorative, here they are sort of sketchy, quite pretty, and worth a look with their shaped canvases and old fashioned figuration. The Jerwood seems to be basing its program around digging up these gems? and in their polished surrounding it looks like a sound mining policy.
