thin paint- high colour. Dogs Jesus sea vases mountain. A lot of Milton Avery. He had something. How why did he do it over and over again? A satisfying slightness. Matisse without the long struggle.

This guy reminded me a bit of Craigie. I like the Avery call - wouldn't have occurred to me but now that you say it, I see it. ;)

I suppose with talents like Craigie, we always want just a little more from them, although they really have only what we see to offer. He never moved on because nowhere else appealed much. He found his niche early and stuck with it. It's a smaller niche for that, probably.

I think more of a symbolist than Matisse - those scrubbed little icons, always pearls of understatement.
