Richard Hamilton @ The National Gallery

Translating classical paintings into photographs and compositing them into 3D or Autocad spaces comes across as predictably crass. I understand old Dickie's fascination with the technology (I too am a sucker for digital shit) but this is not covering up the fact that the late great Hamsie was kind of limited when it came to painting. As various comments on the press reviews of his show point out - he was great at graphics - no printing technique too tricky for Dicky - but as paintings - they're finally a bit L A M O :cry:

yeh they look pretty dreadful but have a certain kitschy fascination
