Neel is not bad, gets a distinct likness, a look and a time captured in paint. There is some joy in the scruffy surfaces. But they are not super extraordinary and if you saw a couple in a market, you wouldnt part with 500 quid for one. They are exceptional because we see part of the figurative tradition which always carried on despite the dominance of other forces in the 60s and 70s, out of context in the super beautiful white mausoleums of contemporary art.
