how many times are we going to have this tedious debate. as long as some of them, or you, produce some decent art, what the hell does it matter?

I take it you are referring to Maev Kennedy's piece in The Guardian on Tuesday? -

I didn't notice this item in the Reviews Forum before commenting on it under Art News.-

Just what the debate is over, is unclear - apart from the fact that Hirst commissions or fabricates work, while Hockney does all his own painting (although uses assistances in his etchings and lithographs and at other times sanctions computer printers for valid proofs of unlimited editions). The comments thread is far more interesting since it quickly takes apart Kennedy's own rationale for the article and reveals the Guardian's standard for art criticism, as once more - seriously sub-standard!
