Edward Ruscha - 'Metro Mattresses' @ Spreuth Magers, Berlin

An odd little show by the grand old Californian master, featuring discarded mattresses around L.A. It sounds like the kind of thing he once would have documented with photographs in a little booklet but these days he turns the photos into pencil and wash drawings for some reason. They work. He still has a great eye for a telling subject. The mattresses could stand for all sorts of things about people in cities. They don't really suggest a particular pictorial medium.
