Henry Miller

Found a short antisemitic rant of his in library ( he got better after war).. Besides the awful, he is still fresh and full of life, and contemporary. Forget the repuatation and read the books. Especially The Rosy crucifixion series.

Watch Me Move: The Animation Show at The Barbican

http://www.barbican.org.uk/artgallery/event-detail.asp?ID=11989 Seen this before, but went again, if you were to watch all the films you'd be there for ever and ever. I may have said this before. There were two films which stood out. One by Run Wrake made up of old kids book illustrations that was ...

Super 8 by the JJ Abrams

Not bad, wanted to see Apes, but they were sold out. The kids are good, and it's all very knowing ET, until they get to the usual CGI Alien which is a bit dull, and the end is all nasty huggy, but dynamic and somewhat beautifully told in moving images.

Falconer by John Cheever

Finally read this after long search. Found in Hackney Library. Libraries are great, there's like loads of books, all free to borrow.

Not fabled masterpiece, but ok, antidote to great gatsby!

The Smurfs in 3D

I really enjoyed this film. Perhaps cos I liked the blue stumpies as a kid. The plot is strong, Gargamel chases them round but never gets them permanently. Like tom and jerry. The 3D was better than Avatar, sill mainly like stage flats, but the smurfs themselves seemed real enough to make you forget...

Devotion by Design: Italian Altarpieces at National Gallery

Free (cos no borrows). Which is good. Before the Leonardo madness a concise logical informative show. Especially good is being able to see the backs of the altarpieces, there is simple rough craftsman's beauty to their rears. Also to the modern eye the scraps of liberated paintings are more beautifu...

close up video shop brick lane

Had to start coming here because they closed the red box kiosk in my local tescos. Problem is no silly comedies and not much recent Hollywood. More for your fassbinder trendies. It's like the reverse of the old fashioned video shop, (all junk and a few sexy foreigners was the norm in the glory days)...

mrs darlings kiss, at arch 402

I know some of the people in the show at the steadily improving arch 402. There is some subtle painting and OTT (a good thing) scuptures and many events and film screenings around this. I am too stupid and lazy to connect it all up but you might have fun doing so..

Toulouse Lautrec and Jane Avril at the Courtauld

This show is too small, good paintings are always worth seeing, but there are only about 2 here. I wasn't interested in the back story and wanted to see more paintings.
