George bellows at royal academy

Interesting to see what a figurative painter who loved manet and velazquez does as his craft is threatened by the juggernaut of modernism

Our Man In Havana by Graham Greene

Yes I've gone greene. I am intrigued by his mastery of narrative, which stops short of being profound in any kind of psychological or other insight. But perhaps the entertainment (he called some of his books entertainments) is the thing, it is the heart of the matter. Another buttoned up Greene hero...

the kroods

Stoneage 3d animation. Watched in foreign language, so didn't have to get the shitty dialogue. The images are beautiful, especially the clouds of smoke. Wondrous in a way, with the flowers and creatures of our ancestors. Better than the cave of forgotten dreams?!

travels with my aunt by graham greene

Greene just short of being major. But still he is fantastic at narrative. I will read more, see the whole lot, enjoyed our man in havana too. A wonderful storyteller is greene and his books reek of a certain type of britishness, the kind people say won the war, self effacing stoic etc etc ad nauseam.

Barocci at the National Gallery

another good woody film, so many of these not that old ones are great that i begin to wonder that maybe the more recent ones might not be so bad. suspenseful, funny, clever, ageing.

Yinka Shonibare at Stephen Friedman

This opening reminded me how white the art world is, there were actually some non-white people at this one.The work is the usual, mannequins in african fabrics which haven't moved on since I saw them about a decade ago. Re: WHY I HATE DISNEY PIXAR FILMS

No, I have had a few days to mull this. And I dread seeing anything Pixar. e.g Toy stories, nemo, cars etc ad nauseam. WHY I HATE DISNEY PIXAR FILMS

Philip Roth, Nemesis

Late. Roth got old and gave up. Defeat or admirable? This is the pared down, remembering late Roth, stark and rather gloomy. Still wadda journey from Portnoy to this which is more Henry Roth, or closer to Joseph Roth in its minimal style.

weird now that I am as old as the people in woody allen films and will never be an adult like his characters, its easy to forget how good they were before they got bad. Will a certain new york life ever be as beautiful as it is in this, and annie hall, and manhattan, perhaps a few others?

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Wildly overrated by Jonathan, Zadie et al. I have now tried two of his books.
