A Death In The Family by Karl Ove Knausgaard

New Proust? Hmm, not quite, but Karl Ove is a man who can make a description of washing his hands interesting. The themes, childhood, death, father, are universal but he brings intelligence wit and obsession to them in a way that's hard to describe (not for him). A book that will linger and keep you...

Humphrey Ocean at The National Portrait Gallery

http://www.npg.org.uk/whatson/display/2012/humphrey-ocean-a-handbook-of-modern-life.php I liked this show, the paintings are fluent with an odd solidness given to them by I guess colour and the use of gouache. They are quick portraits with the odd drip and chunky hands and the figures get bigger at ...

These rom cons are so formulaic that you require zero brain power to interpret them. Everything is conveniently spelled out including any zany quirks. They are such a simplification of human tessellations as to be almost beautiful.

Women of the Middle east tell their story

I am sure this is an important worthy show, but the first few lines read like a parody of a socially concerned art show! "Women of the Middle East tell Their Story A Palestinian all-female auto racing team, transsexuals in Jerusalem, cluster bomb survivors trying to rebuild their lives, Iranian...

The Hobbit by Tolkien and Peter Jackson

Ah the hairy feeted one finally gets his own film. I havent seen a film in a cinema for a while so perhaps my views are distorted but... Well it's 1/3 of the story, it's got some strange additions, and Jackson's messed up the structure. But... I didn't watch it in 3D, which I find annoying and small...

Bring out the bodies Hillary Mantel

http://www.barbicanartsgrouptrust.co.uk/ I know this guy a bit, not well. girls lena dunham

Interesting lena is daughter of good painter carroll. I've only watched two episodes so far, the sex is pleasantly awful, and the dialogue snappy, it doesn't actually seem that far removed from sex and the city, just younger women and a bit less cartoony. Still I will keep watching.
