Luc Tuymans Allo! David Zwirner Gallery

http://www.davidzwirner.com/exhibition/luc-tuymans-allo-2/ Surprise! I really liked this show having found toyman boring since i had him shoved down my oesophagus as a student. chris ofili and peter doig in london again

These guys are two of the best painters of the modern generation. London trained and feted, they decided to move to Trinidad. A bold move to get away from the madding crowd and sycophantic chatter I'd imagine. I was interested to see whether the relocation has helped them paint better, with more fre...

sugimoto and rothko at pace gallery london

http://www.pacegallery.com/london/exhibitions/11142/rothko-sugimoto-dark-paintings-and-seascapes I loved this show. First it seemed facile, all horizon lines, then magical. Bacon Studio in dublin

http://www.hughlane.ie/history-of-studio-relocation Ironically they have taken Bacon's kensington studio and meticulously rebuilt the mess in Dublin City Art Gallery. It is a beautiful and sad sight. SCULPTURE Houseago & Schütte @ HauserWirth Frith St

SCULTPURE, big stuff like HENRY MOORE. It's exciting to large things made of wood, bronze plaster. They do look like art. They lack much movement in space. There is a great moment in Houseago where a 3D foot turns into a drawing of a foot. That will do me. Perhaps it all looks like it's been scaled ...

Re: Peter Doig at Michael Werner London ADDENDUM

the other aspect of this show, which I cant help joining up to prices and non-openings, is the location, about as fancy as possible, just by the US embassy in Mayfair, you buzz in and walk up some carpeted stairs and some snooty gallery assts ignore you. It says, like not having an opening: YOURE NO...

Looking for a Matisse at the Tate Modern

Why does the Tate Modern put me in such a bad mood? Perhaps because out of 7 floors only 3 of them have art hanging on the walls, and even on those floors vast amounts of wall space are used for signage, information, general corridors, and cafes and shops. That's right 7 floors http://www.tate.org.u...

the cost of pork and duck in chinatown london

no longer £5. Sadly the stalwart lunch of the hungry lone diner has now increased to £7.20. Pork and duck on rice (the meat must be served cold on the hot rice, with tea, and free chilli sauce on the side. So so good if the bbq pork is tender, the duck soft on its bones. what i talk about when i talk about running, haruki murakami

never been that into murakami, perfectly readable but somehow too selfconsciously kooky for me. this is a kinda boring but also readable memoir about his marathon running. he is impressively hardworking as a writer and runner. Still suffers from the rather in your face self effacing.

rushmore by wes anderson

a good film, anderson is clear about his concerns, that children can be grown up and adults childish, and that is not a bad thing, we dont need to be stuck in our ages. That life should be spent pursuing whatever quirky vision you have, and that it is full of sad beauty.

hot new poet's novel. He looks like franzen but writes better. This is a coming of age writer in foreign country story, clearly a lot of autoB thrown in, with some unreliable narrator and philosophy about art alienation etc you know what I mean. It's better than it sounds. It's good.
