From: Ben Zanoe Category: Art Date: 10 December 2009 Time: 05:50 AM Review: The tendency for "decor" over "corporeal" is here exemplified without accompanying justification or viable explanation. The desire to adorn an existing entity is an activity which masks or conceals a primary or former expression. The validity of an empty room is negated by the addition of wallpaper. As such this action is validated by negotiating the value of the empty room - is the room empty without wallpaper? etc etc When a painting is formed by applying paint to a canvas, the same question could be asked, Is the raw canvas saying more than the intended painting can say about this condition. In its most accomplished incarnation, a figurative painting, a portrait if you like could imbue a strong presence and be considered to have greater corporeal attributes than decorative techniques or repetitive applique. The comparisons lose their initial contrast as the concept is explained or theorized. Between these two polarities of The Decorative and The Corporeal there are many, many variations, many great pieces.
