Review:

There was a civil war raging bitterly for the past 30 years in the north of Sri Lanka and you wonder
who are Tamils who have caused such problems ?...Well they are cleaning your rooms, cooking your
curries or pictuesquely picking tea at less than the minimum wage so war or no war their situation
remains unchanged... But one thing is clear the symbol of power in Sri Lanka rests on the ownership
of one sacred object - the tooth relic - a tooth apparently snatched from the Budddha's funeral pile
and smuggled into Sri Lanka. Now the holy molar is housed in a bewelled casket under military guard
and occasionally whipped out for the faithfull to view. Each conquerer of Sri Lanka has tried to
capture this sacred relic. First the Portugese tried to destroyed it but it was either a decoy or the tooth
rose into the heavens, then the British kept it for safe keeping and finally the Tigers have made
several bombimg attempts on the tooth to strike at the heart of the Buddist population. This ridiculous
relic is a fitting symbol to all Sri Lankan's despot rulers, would be conquerers and colonialists, an icon
of injustice, ill gotten gains and the misuse of power in the face of a starving population and war torn
land. The tooth relic is certainly the opium of the Sri Lankan people....
Most of this of course is unregistered by the average tourist even those who manage to explore
beyond their all inclusive beach package tours I mean why consider injustice when you have a
deserted beach and Lion beer to occupy you?
