Following her exhibition at the Studios in June, Flore Nové-Josserand will chair a discussion between
several experts about their experience of introducing art into public spaces.

They will consider what it means to make artwork for spaces that are not purely dedicated to the
viewing of art; what the Utopias are that artists can bring into the public ground and how artists can
use aesthetic interventions to make the world a better place.

The discussion will bring together:

Will Alsop – architect
Will has a long experience of working with art and artists. He has won a Stirling Prize and several
Civic Trust Awards and RIBA Awards. In addition to his architectural work, Alsop’s practice
encompasses painting and writing, which he considers as different facets of the same activity.
Recently, Will made waves by announcing that he was quitting architecture to focus exclusively on
painting.

Lothar Götz – visual artist
Lothar has an extensive practice of designing large scale, geometric wall paintings for private and
public spaces. He has worked in a range of challenging spaces, from domestic flats and offices to
churches and schools. Public works include site specific work for the ticket hall of Piccadilly Circus
station and site-specific work for the abandoned Theatre Royal in Nanling, China.

Vivien Lovell – art consultant and founder/director of Modus Operandi
A company that lobbies for, promotes, commissions and supports art projects in the public realm,
Modus Operandi work with artists across many disciplines including architecture, landscape, poetry
and creative writing, choreography, design, fashion and film.

Susanne Thomas – choreographer and artistic director of the Seven Sisters Group
Susanne’s work is mainly site-specific and selected sites have included train stations, libraries, a
forest, department stores and a number of theatres. Recent work includes Asterion, a short sound,
walk and performance piece commissioned by the V&A for the London Design Festival.

Flore Nové-Josserand - visual artist
Flore’s practice is rooted in painting, installations and site-specific work that questions or reacts to
the space in which it exists. This talk forms part of an extension of her investigations into making art
outside of a gallery context. Trained at the Ecole Nationale Supérieur d’Arts de Paris-Cergy and the
Slade School of Fine Art, she has had solo exhibitions at Bischoff/Weiss, London and at Siobhan
Davies Studios. She is represented by Bischoff/Weiss gallery.
