Ann Pitkin -
The origins of my drawing came from an historical attraction to curly hair. The interest began through a fascination in the Pre-
Raphaelites, culminating in an ongoing passion for the thick tussles of my partners hair. The physical feeling of hair is what
attracts me. I relish the challenge of organising the landscape of each strand and using the grade of the pencil to it’s fullest
range of tone. The drawing is deliberately faceless, requiring the viewer to base their opinion on the hair and not the person. We
are left with hair that has evolved it’s own personality.
