Old woolworths are evocative, especially if you once went there to find some crap you can get cheaper now in a pound shop. They had decided expediently to keep the peg board walls and other fixtures, as well as come up with the most obvious title ever. The space is cavernous and I think it is a mistake to put messy art in a messy space. A very crisp show would have looked amazing in here, but perhaps that was outside the community remit. Another thing you notice is that the local community outside the art show has brownish skins and the ones inside mostly consist of people with pinkish skins. Not in itself that strange as art is pretty white and local artists have as much right as anyone to exhibit locally even if they have more in common with global artists than "the local community". The art was a mish mash of interactive fun friendly gizmos and a smattering of amateurish paintings, and only a sory of abstract streaky painted wooden slide stood out. If these artists were in business, they'd soon be as bankrupt as the unmissed woolies.
