Review:

sheffield museums, museums sheffield, the former conveys the contemporary and contempible
obsession with branding and style over content. provincial museums offer the chance for lesser art to
shine, so wholesale importing of crap tate style let the public have their say shows is a waste of time.
minor cities must cling to what makes them different and accentuate those idiosyncracies as much as
possible, otherwise they just look pathetic and try-hard and identitik like their high streets with boots,
smiths, greggs, tkmax et al. this show on identity is not very good but there are some odd charcoal
drawings by an irish artist and the usual a tranny, black person, gillian wearing,a muslim woman, I
suppose that is all the possibliities for human identity in our day and age. I wonder how many of the
artists turned up for the opening.
