From: Fatso Category: Art Date: 16 February 2009 Time: 06:53 AM Review: What is it with noodle bars? Like graffiti is for people who don't like art, noodle bars are for people who don't like food or restaurants. They give you a bunch of udon, sushi, dumplings etc which all taste of not much, are vaguely well presented, and where you sit on a table full of fellow noodle diners listening to overly loud music, and meaningless chatter magnified by the hard acoustics of the poorly thought out dining room. You eat a meal which has no point to it, offensive to noone and pleasurable for noone, a kind of perfect capitalism unsatisfying consumption of food turned into nothingness. Everyone leaves happy they have not spent too much on nothing, not eaten anything too unhealthy, been too a place not too fancy or too crappy, not eaten something too strong or flavourful, secure in the mediocrity of the middle classes. The noodle bar is the defining locus of our nihilism.
