From: Clem Category: Art Date: 05 January 2009 Time: 07:00 PM Review: About six months ago I was involved in a debate with "Blp "in the pages of world wide review concerning a show by The Chapmans at White Cube. How ephemeral it all seems now, how quickly the world changes ! For what once seemed relevent has now been consigned to history , seperated from us by the abyss of economic meltdown. Who would now spend seven million dollars on a work of such unabated nihilism ? For what we need now is work that tenderises the soul , that soothes our beleagured and addled brains. We need the exquisite, the intimate, the work that is pliant to the touch, we need the art that puts us in touch with our real feelings. Oh Blp, you were right all along! And yet you allowed yourself to succumb to my relentless logic, to my infernal rhetoric , and the debate sent you scurrying off, never to write for worldwidereview again ! Blp- I apologise. I never meant to hurt you . Will you return, now , when we need you the most. ? I promise I will be more sensitive this time. History has proved you right- isn't that in itself solace enough?
