The Schnabel Oriental Paintings are very poor, I thought before I looked at the labels that they were by a very derivative (polke et al) young artist. The wheelchairs are great, and made me ask that dumb question, is it art? Isn't art different from entertainment, in transformation of material or the visiblility of medium, like two big ideas existing at the same time in the same place, NOT somehow just something that looks great and makes you think a bit, or smile and is put in art gallery. This piece of art, realistic mannequins of world leaders as OAPS in wheelchairs roll around a gallery seemingly under their own volition. The spectacle is spellbinding, it is funny and sad, and thought provoking. http://www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/artists/yu_yuan.htm?section_name=china_art Why is it not art? Because there is nothing else there, just craft. Not the freedom of thought in action in material.
