From: tell Category: TVBooks Date: 02 December 2008 Time: 11:09 AM Review: Just read a Wallander book, not bad Swedish detective. Disconcerting set design and wardrobe on tv as Swedes played by Brits, niggles. Basic look seems 70s with funny glasses and abstract wall decoration and wooden panelling. Is this verifiablly Swede? Branagh is good, rumpled and unshaven and tubby, believable. The filming is pointless arty, too many irrelevant close-ups and doomy nature shots. A little drawn out. The books are good because Wally Wallander makes mistakes and gets bashed up, and the procedure is dull like you imagine real detective work. The tv show needs a bit more pace, and seems too dark for masses, but they liked seven so who knows?
