Review:

Finito! A long read about 999 pages long. Bolano is the master of the surprising sentence, the little
colloquialism thrown in, the dash of irony or wistfulness making you reread. He makes literature and
its protagonists fun. And although the middle part of this is a long endless recitation of murders and
rapes of women (hard/boring to read) which makes you feel the world as a hateful killing place and
there are too many of his familiar zany characters, and some of the details of the many cities seem
off, this is a long book that makes you wish Bolano was still alive to write more, but because not all
his work has been translated he sort of is for the english reader. The paperback edition in three parts
is a delightful book to own, beautiful design. Is Bolano better than Borges, I don't know, he is really a
great storyteller with a whole load of other shit thrown in.
