You sit in a quaint interior with a clean table and a friendly waitress. You are served good chips, fresh fish in a crisp batter, and they even include a wedge of lemon (remarkable in my experience). You don't leave half your food on your plate, you don't feel queasy afterward, you spend less than £10 per person. The sun shines through the window. In this cursed crummy country The Mermaid Restaurant at 2 Rock-a-nore road is what amounts to a large and important miracle.
