I think it's a good idea and a positive action in response to frieze and all the other shit that us artists on the lower steps of the ladder slag off because we don't have a gallery selling our paintings at these places. I've not yet been to the Free Fair this year but a friend of mine told me that regardless of the concept, it is a very good art show. The one annoyance that niggles in my mind whenever I think about it is that it isn't really a fair. It's an exhibition where the art is given away, posing as a fair in order to get tagged onto press round-ups about frieze/zoo/red dot/scope etal. I'd like to see next years free art fair hosting galleries, rather than individual artists, to give away selected pieces by their represented artists. Will that happen and will it work?
