Terrace Annual 2008

We arrived quite late so the band had finished, the light was fading and the BBQ was over. I like
the title of the show, it suggests desolation and aftermath so arriving late seemed appropriate.
Signposting for the artworks seemed non-existent, so it was difficult to work out who was in the
show or if there were titles somewhere, necessary to activate certain works. Still, there was a nice
atmosphere. The exhibition was more about a social situation, reminding me of a lot of exhibitions
I’ve been to which are more about being there than the work, but not because of a relational
aesthetics agenda. The works inside were more ‘professionally’ mounted, video projections including
a series of rather naughty watercolour blobs projected large, like rough n’ ready Marlene Dumas
watercolours in black. I liked the way they faded from one to the other, suggesting a porno show
starring splodgy ink people. There was also a video of a woman who looked mentally unbalanced with a
voiceover that seemed to suggest that the artist knew that there were serious ethical issues with
showing this footage, that seemed to have been collected on the sly, with a rather damning ‘look at
this mad woman’ voice-over monologue. I’ve been searching on google to find out more about the
artists or the place, but I can’t find anything.
