From: Nned Thisom Category: Art Date: 08 September 2008 Time: 02:55 AM Review: There has been a lot of talks of prizes on wwr recently. I myself posted a scathing review of the judging panel of the John Moores when it was announced, another RCA appreciation award I exclaimed. As such I was a little surprised to get longlisted (not being RCA alumni), but alas didn't make the final push. Then there was the debacle of the Threadneadle Prize, Angela Flowers judging her own artists. What? She thinks they are good? Is that why she shows them? Or will this mean she can make more money from them? Why are these people not ashamed of their actions? Now we have the Marmite Prize for painting. What are we to make of this? The judges (who are all female) include Liz Neal and Milly Thompson (who used to be in BANK), and everyone who enters gets to have a drawing in the catalogue. Seems quite nice to me, and it's being held at studio1.1 which is one of the more interesting galleries in the east, at least, a project space that has not succumbed to celebrity and art commerce like many others around it. I think I'll do it. www.marmiteprize.org
