Cy Twombly at Tate Modern

Review:

Nice to see the galleries almost empty on saturday afternoon. The plebs hate abstract paintings. I 
quite like Twombly's efforts. His name is like his work a kind of awkward mess. You wonder at the will 
power it must take to keep scribbling away believing in the metaphysics or at least meaning of what 
you are doing, chalking up another blackboard gravely. Sometimes I think being a (good) artist is just 
this audacity to make something silly and seemingly insignificant. The highs are in the last rooms, the 
tasteless Venetian paintings, which are so tacky and Monet like, as to be breathtaking, and the big 
red loopy ones which are simple and beautiful. No one wants to look at art, better off with some 
videos of someone shaking their penis, easier to dislike.
