I quite like Twombly's efforts. His name is like his work a kind of awkward mess. You wonder at the will power it must take to keep scribbling away believing in the metaphysics or at least meaning of what you are doing, chalking up another blackboard gravely. Sometimes I think being a (good) artist is just this audacity to make something silly and seemingly insignificant. The highs are in the last rooms, the tasteless Venetian paintings, which are so tacky and Monet like, as to be breathtaking, and the big red loopy ones which are simple and beautiful. No one wants to look at art, better off with some videos of someone shaking their penis, easier to dislike.
