Review:

Von Hellerman's paintings are in transition (not the gallery). Her earlier work had a painterly
isouciance that this review really liked, whilst others found it too cool for their tastes. I think Von H.'s
paintings were sincere. How long is it possible to paint with a flick of the wrist and the shadow of an
image, especially starting out with that style. We have the answer now, she has tried to push forward,
a bit of cubism, more worked surfaces, and less clarity. These paintings are not as successful as
earlier work but they show the will to progress and this hard boiled art reviewer lauds that sentiment,
would that others took it on.
