In french with subtitles which adds to the problems of spelling out words with one eyelid. Elegiac, and
little arty-phony. Moving, if perhaps sentimental, do we not sit in the dark to shed tears. The story is
nicely unresolved or not happily. Did Mr Schnabel choose the lead for his resemblance to Mr. S.
Somehow a small film, with too many musical sequences and unconvincing and cliched art film
imagery. Better than I am making it sound. It really is quite good.
