All the brand-name dropping and stupendously rich people and fscottfitzgerald-lite prose make for a confection that never quite gets past superficial. Somehow I never cared about the protagonists or whether their children overdosed or went off with their biological mother, yet still was gripped to read the book far into the night as the wind swayed the windows as at sea.
