From: book features Category: Books Date: 04 January 2008 Time: 06:02 AM Review: http://books.guardian.co.uk/authors/author/0,,-192,00.html Vast output of 20,000 books, input, slept with 100,000 women. Because he wrote so many books they are necessarily short, easy to carry, fast to read. Early books have stench of xenophobia. Compelling, full of lovely sordid details. Invented Noire. Invented Blanc. Invented Maigret. Not the duck. The Psychology is shallow but does the job. Great writer with too much ink.
