The funny thing about new zealanders is that everytime I meet someone who sounds Australian in London, I say are you from New Zealand? and they are pleasantly surprised that I have correctly identified them. If there is a national characteristic of NZ speech, it is a certain deadpan low-key banality. The conchords put this to good use in their adventures in New York and their pastiches of 80s music, enjoyably not striving too much for success in the bad apple. Watch it, another good thing on tv.
