Someone told me no one was going. And yes the RA wrinklies are boycotting death, sex, and
politics. They prefer victorian thoroughbreds and scones. The galleries are empty which should mean
the paintings are good. And they're not quite. He handles paint nicely, and the sculptures are funny
and surprising, but all the gunter grass and manic marks get on your nerves after a while and you wish
for a change of pace, which is almost provided in the 1990s paintings when he calms down and
paints some upside down portraits with nice patterns, but even these look a little tired, and not like
late great work. So the english dont like baselitz and all in all in all in all for once theyre right.
