Review:

I read his second before his first . They are very similar : a russian jewish nebbish from new york goes east to thinly parodied prague or russian republic falls in with gangsters and sort of finds himself . The first is way better . Gary can make you laugh and also suprise with rich language . There is good stuff here only the need to move the plot along spoils the party . Each book begins in glorious absurdity only to end with too much action which thins the comic soup . He should look to bolano for help
