From: telly Category: Art Date: 16 August 2007 Time: 07:11 AM Review: A show about a serial killer who kills serial killers. That is a brilliant idea. Dexter is a charming self conscious psycho who works for the police analysing blood samples. Lots of flashbacks to childhood dont work so well. His sister is murder cop too on same force. Oh does tv love freud or other bearded early 20th C europeans. It's good but drool over its own daring and nastiness a bit too much. Less graphic than say Niptuck, say, say. What pleasure we take in believing that nasties are good looking actors (eg Hopkins as Hannibal) with ready bon mots and aesthetic pretensions We don't want to think as violence as environmental inherited, imposed by abuse, dirty and ugly.
