Revenge and sportsmanship

Review:

As much as I would have liked Zidane and Co. to have swept away the golden trophy last July, I
accepted that the Italians won fair and square and were the rightful winners. So, why this talk of
revenge when France beat Italy a few months later in the Euro 2008 qualifying rounds? Surely,
revenge implies some fault of the other party that must be rectified through defeat. But they did
nothing wrong, they just won. Revenge is bandied around a lot in sporting circles and I see it as a
threat to good sportsmanship so I say away with you, revenge, you have no place in the competitive
pantheon. May the best wo/man win.
