'Actually it was quite nice' is a bit like 'not bad' - which is an expression I find odd. 'Not bad' is good, but it should almost be 'not good but not bad either'. In Germany people get confused when you say 'not bad'. 'Nicht slecht' is positively not 'not bad' rather decidedly 'not good'. 'Nice' is like saying that if you had to rate an experience on a scale of one to ten it gets a 6.5. A word like 'amazing' would yield an 8, 'bad' is only a 4, 'really bad' is 2.5, 'terrible' is 2, 'horrific' is 1 and zero is reserved for unspeakably bad/'evil' and such. So 'nice' is okay but kind of only just above middling. Anything near the middle is actually bad for a lot of people.
