Statistics, everywhere, especially sports pages of newspapers

Review:

So many statistics in the papers, in the news. They aren't particularly apt or revealing, merely
repetitive. In fact, our view of what we are reading would be no worse off without these tedious
calculations. The journalists can't get enough of them, and us the readers are obliged to follow suit.
We are complicit in their numerical laziness. But I say, no! We must strike out against this facile way
of looking at the world, and use the full strength of our emotions, imagination etc. to describe what we
see around us. Sometimes, I feel that I'm turning into a number, and believe me, that's not pretty.
