From: book reviews Category: Books Date: 21 December 2006 Time: 05:51 PM Review: when did martin amis get old. this is a book young men like to say is the best they ever read. on the cover it says book of the decade, as good as lolita etc etc. perhaps without the hype, it would be just a goodish read.celine and miller with some other potty prick boilers mixed in, and a bit of wall street. compared to nabokov though, amis is rubbish. his character, self, lacks any credibility, his common folk are as flimsy as the formal first he won (which we hear childishy about in the blurb (grow up!)). amis's word play is entertaining, sometimes startling, but never enough. he has talent without understanding, a lack of experience perhaps.
