Review:

The Marmite Prize at the Residence on Victoria Park Road is one of those shows that you are not expecting. The gallery is full of
paintings, 80+ I should think, but this is not to detremental effect. Instead of the usual mish mash salon hang, everything is neatly
placed in a grid and labelled with the artists names. One thing to add though, it's all up-side down. I don't know why this is, and
after getting a crook neck and feeling slightly annoyed (and stupid) I decided to go with it and now found I was viewing the works
as paintings rather than pictures. I hope this is what the organisers were after because I think it works. Strange things start
happening that delight eye in the way that the brain would have restricted were they the intended way up. A definate go see for all
painters, if you don't make it though may I suggest turning all the paintings over in your studio....it might help.
The Marmite Prize was judged by Mark McGowan, Harry Pye and Dallas Seitz, curated by Marcus Cope and Stephanie Moran.
The winner was Michele Fletcher. The show finishes on sunday17th.
