Review:

Went last night - held on the 10th floor of our new building. Reception, meal, band then disco. I'm
leaving the firm at the end of the month when my contract runs out.

Like the naffest of wedding it was surprisingly fun. People doing the conga, karaoke, etc. Dullest
man in office wearing a white pvc Elvis costume; another in an afro wig. Exceedingly straight men
being wacky for one night. Karaoke, carwash, the most predictable 70s stuff. Wanted to ask for
Crass's "how does it feel to be the mother of a thousand dead?" but not sure the DJ would have it.

Weedy old man, at the firm thirty years and always seen in a dandfruff-specked suit, was making use
of the vodka ice fountain. I stuck to champagne and red wine. Long conversation all through dinner
with the 46 yr old female partner I was sitting next to, hadn't met her before; her asking about my
former PhD, what my friends did, me regurgitating usual hang-up of liking posh people who didn't
need to work. She'd been to public school and Cambridge herself ofc but valued hard work
independence and people who achieved for themselves, also ofc. Found her very sympathetic and
engaging.

No sexy girls really - not the right department. Well, Carly from Accounts - the usually look-at-my-ass
tight-trousered Essex girl - was there in a little black dress, but left early; I was sorry I didn't talk to her.

I didn't dance. Kept going down to the 6th floor roof terrace to smoke, accompanied by assorted
lawyers and trainees, despite smoking being banned up there. Rebellion all round, one night only!

To sum up this cliched evening "a good time was had by all."
